Camping at the field with hot air balloons | Tour de Cerdagne Train Jaune, Bains de LLO, Centrale solaire Ello in Pyrenees, France
This was our third day of GR de Pays Tour de Cerdagne in Pyrenees-Orientales, France. We hiked 17 kms from the town Bourg-Madame, passing through villages Err, Vedrinyans, Llo and getting to Eyne. The night was pretty warm for the start of September there was no wind so we had a good sleep. We woke up that day quite early disturbed by the weird sounds that seemed to us like a gas burning so we thought it to be the work on the railway that was passing right above our camp spot. To our surprise when we looked out of the tent we could see no signs of it but…

Walking through historical roman villages and Santa Maria de Bell-Lloc church | Tour de Cerdagne Day 2 Dorres to Puigcerda in Pyrenees, France
This was our second day of GR de Pays Tour de Cerdagne in Pyrenees-Orientales, France. We hiked 17kms from the old Roman village Dorres, Santa Maria de Bell-Lloc church, passed by La Tour de Carol-Enveigt and Spanish town Puigcerda and crossed back to Bourg-Madame, France. The day before we had to spend quite a bit of time wandering around and had to get away from the official trail in order to find a camp spot. It was quite tiring and we got exhausted. In the end we climbed up right into the fields on quite a slope and were able to find a more or less flat spot there. We…

First day hiking the beautiful trail GR de Pays Tour de Cerdagne in Pyrénées-Orientales, France | Font-Romeu to Dorres
This was our first day of GR de Pays Tour de Cerdagne trail that we decided to do as a tribute to this beautiful region where we have been living for the last 3 years now. It is a circular trail that can be done in either direction and we decided to go counter clockwise starting in Font-Romeu village. Previously we have done the parts of this trail here and there but have never had a chance to hike it as a whole. So we thought it would be an amazing hike to do to be able to pass by many interesting attractions and overall show the different parts of…

We started on the beautiful sunny August day in Porta and started to walk uphill following the river Campcardos. Challenging hike to the Peak Carlit in Pyrenees-Orientales, France | Bouillouses Natural Site
It was the second day of our 2 day hike to the Peak Carlit. That day we hiked 18 kms through the beautiful lakes at the Bouillouses Natural Site and ascended to the Pic Carlit (2921m). That night we slept really well, it was very quiet and calm with no people around us and the temperature was very comfortable, not too cold but very humid. So we got ready quickly, ate our breakfast and started our 18kms hike for the day. We wanted to leave our backpacks somewhere in the forest so that we can hike as lightweight as possible. We had a very good previous experience with Puigmal when…

Serene Hike to the Lake Bouillouses Natural Site in PYRENEES-Orientales, France
It was the first day of our 2 day hike to the Pic Carlit (2921m). This bright sunny day started at the camping Pla de Barres and we planned to walk around 10 kms to the lake Pradeilles. We were so excited to do this hike as it’s been a long time since we ascended the peak Puigmal last year. All the first part of the trail was a very easy and relaxing walk along the banks of the river Tet. It is one of our favourite type of routes where you really get to enjoy the shadow of the forest and the water flowing nearby. It’s been really tempting…
- Backpacking, Cami de Sant Jaume, Camino de Santiago, Hiking in Pyrenees, Hiking in Spain, Hiking Trail
Final day and our impressions on Camino de Santiago in Catalonia, Spain – Day 4
On our fourth and final day of Cami de Sant Jaume in Catalonia we were quite tired already after previous extremely hot days but we had a quiet night in the camping Gran Sol in Seu d’Urgell and were ready to do the final stretch of this hike today. After having bought so many food yesterday(cause we were very hungry) we had to carry with us more extra weight and we were really worried whether we would be able to complete this 20+ kms stretch or not. But we hoped that the weather and the trail would work in our favor. We needed to get to the town Organya where…

The hottest day on the Camino de Santiago in Catalonia, Spain | From Pont de Bar to Seu d’Urgell
We had a very good night at the camping Pont d’Ardaix, it was thunderstorming a bit in the evening again but then it was all calm and quiet. For the day 3 we planned to do the same distance again as all the previous days – around 20 kms. And our final point was the town of Seu d’Urgell in the province of Lleida. We did realize that the trail probably would be quite challenging and hard because of the mountains around us and the extreme July heat that was staying with us everyday. So we wanted to get ready as quickly as possible and to conquer the main mountain…
