The hottest day hiking the Ligurian seacoast in Italy | Day 1 from Sestri Levante to Moneglia
We started the Cinque Terre hike when we decided to interrupt our Via Francigena and get closer to the coast. We had very hot days lately so we felt like getting closer to the coast may help a bit and also we wanted to have a variety of hiking experience in Italy discovering different parts of it. So we booked a Bla Bla Car to pick us up from the lake Viverone where we were staying for couple of days to Genova from where we wanted to take a train further along the coast to the town Sestri Levante. We were lucky because someone was going in the direction we…

Hiking remote paths of the Italian seacoast | Cinque Terre Day 2 – Framura, Bonassola and Levanto
That day we woke up really early at 5am. As we did promised to ourselves to try the new schedule in order to escape the extreme heat hours. We didn’t even had any breakfast – just ate some nuts and one peach. It isn’t what we like to do to start the day on an empty stomach but this was the sacrifice we had to do. The night was very quiet, we just heard some wild boar noises from a far but they didn’t came close to us. The plain wood helped a lot to even out the surface and we slept really well. So when we wrapped everything up…

Great Mediterranean Coast Hike in Costa Brava, Spain | Day 7 – Cadaques – Cap de Creus Lighthouse
It was the last and final day of our hike and the plan was to get to the Cap de Creus Lighthouse and explore the area around it. Yesterday we had a beautiful bright day getting to Cadaques town but when we got there we realized that it is different from other coastal towns that we’ve been before. Right from the start the amount of traffic and people in the town made us feel a bit strange about it. As normally all the places we passed by were little quiet villages and here it was noisy and too populated, it was just very unusual. Then after spending the night in…

Great Mediterranean Coast Hike in Costa Brava, Spain | Day 6 – Port de la Selva-Cadaques
We had a beautiful start of the day having our breakfast at the scenic beach and watching the sun coming up right next to our camping Port de la Vall. We got there yesterday quite late and it turned out that the closest supermarket is in 2.5 kms from the camping. And so after that hot exhaustive day we had to walk more in order to have a proper dinner. So unfortunately we hadn’t much time to enjoy the area in the evening and went to sleep right away. But the morning was beautiful and we tried to get on the trail as early as possible to escape the middle…

Great Mediterranean Coast Hike in Costa Brava, Spain | Day 5 – Colera, Llançà, Selva de Mar
We started our day feeling very refreshed and energized after having a nice rest at the camping Sant Miquel in Colera, Spain. We had a plan to make 15 kms to the town Selva de Mar further down the coast and hoped that the relief and the weather will work in our favor. When we were leaving Colera for the first time during this hike we felt the piece of our heart was left in this place. It seemed so cosy and home-like to us and we were definetely considering going back here to stay for several days when we finish the hike. The camping itself was very new and…

Great Mediterranean Coast Hike in Costa Brava, Spain | Day 4 – Cerbère, Portbou, Colera
The night was extremely windy with the wind fiercely blowing up our tent so it was quite disturbing to our sleep. The reason for that most probably was the location of the Camping Municipal de Cerbere where we stayed. It is situated right at the edge of the cliff where nothing can block the wind from any side. But we tried hard to sleep as much as we could cause the long day was expecting us. We planned to pass by the town of Cerbere, crossing the border to Portbou in Spain and walk all the way to the little town at the coast Colera. So we got up really…

Great Mediterranean Coast Hike in Occitanie, France | Day 3 – Nature reserve Cerbère-Banyuls
After having a really nice rest the day before in the camping La Pine we woke up to the new day all ready to hit the trail again. We had a really quiet night here listening to nightingales and we liked the camping overall. It is located on different levels with lots of space for the tents and lots of big trees so it almost feels like you’re in the forest. And it was nearly empty in that season in the end of May. The morning was quite foggy and humid and it looked like it could be a rainy day which we were really afraid of because our video…

Great Mediterranean Coast Hike – Day 2 | Anse de Paulilles, Banyuls-sur-Mer
After an exhausting first day we slept very well and we woke up at a sunrise to an incredibly beautiful scenery of the little bay, swaying yacht and calm sea waters. The atmosphere was very peaceful. And in these moments you realize that nothing can compare with the wild camping spots, they are always special and memorable. That day we took it slow and with no hurry we had the substantial breakfast (luckily we had the leftover veggies from yesterday), got everything packed and finally started walking. Our plan for the day was to make no more than 7 km until our camping site in Banyuls-sur-Mer. First we walked along…

Great Mediterranean Coast Hike – Day 1 | Argelès-sur-Mer, Collioure, Port-Vendres
It was our first major hike that we ever did, we ended up doing 80+ km and it took us 7 days to accomplish. We chose to go backpacking, carrying our tent, and stay in the camping sites on the way. This hike is great to do in spring(May-June) or autumn(September-October), as the heat in summer can be pretty extreme. We enjoyed so much doing it in the late May-beginnings of June with all the blossom and smells around along with favorable weather conditions that we would highly recommend it to everyone. The hike can be broken up in as many parts as you wish by doing as many kms…
